PUBLIC ADVOCACY: Power to the people

After I had several successes at Ford, they ran out of projects to give me.  So they came up with one.  It had been bothering them for 75 years. They Requested that I get rid of Dirt in Paint.  THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN LEFT FLOATING AROUND FOR 75 years. That became my problem.
Nobody thought I’d solve it. It was never meant to be solved. But I took the project seriously, and it took me to hell and back. The Ford employees were pissed off.  One day I received a wrapped Ferragamo  box, which I carefully unwrapped only to find a pile of shit. They felt, you want to find dirt, here it is!
Un-deterred I set about getting rid of dirt in paint and making Ford competitive with ” the Japanese”.

If Ford was serious about getting rid of Dirt in Paint, I was going to implement that program, no matter what!  If anyone says it can’t be done, that’s a direct challenge: you’ve got to succeed.  The gauntlet has been thrown down, just like in the olden days, when people entered into duels to defend their honor.

One difference: my duel was fought in a then-unheard-of red dress.  My personal coat of arms; my version of Thatcher’s handbag.

Several years of seminars in the paint department maintaining and refurbishing the spray booths and a $180,000,000 investment in new facilities and equipment, and Ford cars were free of Dirt.  We had a very impressive painting finish. The spray booths, a laminar flow facility, were ” balanced”. And the 1978 Lincoln’s  used the “new” base coat clear coat process from Behr, just like Mercedes!  Our personal standard of excellence!

If you think something can’t be done, stay out of the way of the person doing it. I was brought up with the mantra “Never say Never”, and to stay away from ever giving the answer “No”.  You say instead, “I can do it and when do you want it “.  The Can Do Spirit. It works.

Me, 1979

It can happen if we all want the same thing. And work towards its accomplishment. Anything is possible. Live with positives one day at a time.

I watched John Boehner speak this morning and felt,  he  is out of touch with reality. The people are seeking information and joining the Affordable Care Act exchanges, because his attention is focused 100% on it!    This shut down has given the Affordable Care Act a chance to survive and improve. Not surprisingly, the Republicans’ action against Obamacare contributed to its success.  The longer the shut down, the less Power Congress will have over the People.  So it seems that America is once again operating on the philosophy “Woe  to anyone not listening to the will of the People”.   The People get it.

More Power to the People.  There is HOPE!
