The Voice of Joyce: “Two States for Two People ” concept and MAP!

May 31, 2015

Photo on 5-30-15 at 11.31 AMI am for the Pope , I understand that he gave the Peace process a nudge. He is protecting Christian enclaves , like Jericho and he’s correct to do so. Was it so bad to call ABBAS an “Angel of Peace”? I don’t think so. In 1976, Kissinger, relentlessly pursued Golda Meir until the State of Israel agreed to give Sinai back to Egypt. For Peace, there were trade offs. Was I angry, before, I calmed down and understood why The Pope’ chose to comment now and why his continued involvement. I understand the necessity for Peace, no one I know and like, thinks Israel will exist without a plan for a Two State Solution!   Denial of facts on the ground can’t persist , the status quo is not acceptable. Therefore, with the Pope’s involvement, renewed interest in a two state solution is inevitable. According to the formation of the State of Israel, a two State solution was the only way to maintain a Jewish State with a Jewish identity. “Two States for Two people.”

Remember the history of the State of Israel?   Israel was formed by UN mandate in 1948. At the same time, the Palestinians were granted territory for a State which they refused. Instead, they chose war against the newly formed State rather then establish the Peace. This scenario has been continuing for 67 yrs. Does this war like condition have to persist? No.
When I saw Athol Fugards play,” The Painted Rocks” , playing at the Signature Theater in NYC, I found myself conflicted about who the South Africans represented? Were they the Israelis or the Palestinians? Who gets to stay and who leaves. If so, where? This is not an easy decision. Nor should it be. For 67 yrs they have been battling. Now it’s time to change the dance and think coexistence , people and economics.
Open to new thoughts and solace, on  a Friday in mid May, I looked forward to attending Shul. The Stephan Wise Free Synagogue hosted Israel’s elite, the young people chosen to be Israel’s future leaders. They too are conflicted.. One young man wants to maintain the status quo while another sees present day Israel as becoming ” a little bit racist”. I know how I felt when I saw films, that were / are” a little bit anti Semitic” . As JEWS we were taught to look for every nuance, that passed the “anti-Semitic test”. I guess other people feel the same way about their culture. Perhaps we are all a ” little bit too sensitive”?

I prefer to focus on the second young man’s point of view ( in my lexicon, anyone can be a young person, if they’re flexible and think “young”.  Young has nothing to do with age.  But I digress!)   When I asked his opinion  about a one State solution vs a Two State solution. He presented the first argument I could understand and accept. His discussion follows: If, as Amos Horev, postulated , when thinking about a two State solution : He said, either there will be a resolution of the people’s dilemma , creating a Palestinian State, or the  Israeli’s would continue building .   This is the Israeli problem, if there was a One State Solution, Israel might cease to be a uniquely Jewish State.  According to Israel’s ” Declaration of Independence ” the maintenance of a JEWISH State is ” absolute”. But it is absolute for many reasons. The most important one is the continuation of the JEWISH people residing in their own Homeland. I get that.
Therefore, taking into account the neighborhood and the document establishing a JEWISH State as a refuge for all JEWS.  Israel has been designated as the sanctuary for the Jewish people in perpetuity.  The facts demand that a PALESTINIAN State be created.

As I continued our discussion we began to talk about the boundaries of the Palestinian State in the abstract,  aware of the pain it would cause to both people, as we shifted populations to accommodate the newly formed  States.    After several weeks of careful deliberation, while keeping Maps of the existing State of Israel at my side, I continued to develop the boundaries of what I thought might work as a plan for “Two States for Two People:.   Always mindful of the facts on the ground and the populations in place,  I have taken our original discussion to the next level and created a State with boundaries, that would allow both States to have continued access to the region.

By creating this newly formed Palestinian State  extending ” South of the Sea of  Galilee and  the north of the Dead Sea”, Israel maintains defensible Borders.   Land swaps and cut outs to be detailed .  The enclosed Map draws the defined territory as running from the “Towns” of  Ramallah in the South to Janin to Tubas to Jericho.  Rawabi, the newly built “City on the Hill”, could be the new State’s Capital.  A new Capital for a new state.

Rawabi, 10/2013

It could work. After much personal agony and sleepless nights, I  propose the configuration on the Map I’ve inexpertly drawn. There will be swaps but basically the concept  is doable. This is a new position for me.  I intend to speak about  this concept with “people” attending The JERUSALEM Post Conference on 6/7/15 and the NIF dinners in June. Through Social Media, I invite everyone involved, Palestinians, Israelis, Egyptians, Jordanians, #POTUS and the Pope to offer constructive criticism. This issue will become an  experiment in interactive social media usage as well!
it’s up to the Palestinians and the Israelis to choose peaceful coexistence and a better way of life. They may be the only humane refuge in a sea of terror and misery. Time indeed is of the essence. The more time elapsing, under the “status quo”, the more people confronted with idleness and the increase in poverty , the greater the likelihood for radicalization?
Thinking aloud, this is not an easy decision to make.  Transferring several populations takes judicious and careful consideration. After the framework for these new entities are agreed upon,  It could take 5 yrs,to 15 years to create the housing and infrastructure to relocate people and towns.. It might take more money then either Israel or the Muslim community can provide. But if both parties are  dedicated to  creating “Two States for Two People,” it could work.

  • I look forward to an island of peaceful coexistence that could bring hope to a troubled region. One can dream!

As always, dear followers and readers, I anticipate a lively discussions of this concept.  Wishing everyone a great day!

The Voice of Joyce:  Thoughts while thinking about” Two States for Two People”

May 30, 2015

Photo on 5-14-15 at 12.01 PMEvery time I hear about injustice on our Globe, I cringe and feel outraged. The World concentrates on the ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN “states”, but forgets to look at the billions of people suffering on our Planet.

  • The kids in school suffering intense anxiety.
  • Moroccan kids being abandoned by their parents, at the rate of 24 kids a day.
  • Nepal’s earthquake victims being challenged by the weather and lacking  building materials and basic human needs.
  • SYRIA has ongoing wars between  Shiite and Sunni proxies, leaving millions in diaspora.
  • The entire Middle East is subsumed in tribalism, returning to pre WWI nomadic tribes. More people slaughtered
  • Young people all over the western world are left to fend for themselves by leaderless economies, big on rhetoric and weak on action plans for jobs?

As the World’s anguish continues unabated, we concentrate our thoughts  on Israel? It Bogle’s my mind. If there is coexistence here? If there is a plan for “two states for two people”? Will this be a wake up call for the rest of our World’s people to demand a better life for themselves? Will we as a race , finally break free of 20 th Century thinking and , cast off barbarism , inhumanity to our fellow man, murder, inequality and finally move toward the light? A better day? Seeking the rainbow?

  • I hope so. I’m content to provide whatever insight’s I have. The rest is up to you, “dear world”.  All of us can do better!

The Voice of Joyce: Publishing My Thoughts on “TWO STATES for Two People”

May 30, 2015

Photo on 5-14-15 at 12.01 PMDear followers, this weekend I will release a series of Posts on my thought process over the last few weeks. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak to extraordinary people, not necessarily known to the world, but transformative for me.
In the continuing process of self discovery, I have  thought about the State of our World and concentrated on my passions and concerns.  As you know, I’m concerned about the fate of Israel and have listened to people, who wish for “Two States for Two People.”  Therefore, contrary to my previous statements, advocating  a One State Solution, I offer for your debate, my  evolving concept of “Two States for Two People”.
Thank you for following. I look forward to reading your comments and discussing my proposal  at Conferences and Dinners I’m attending during the month of June.   Additionally, I will query my On-Line Community for answers and add  Periscope to my arsenal of Social Media outlets.   Date  to be published.

The Voice of Joyce: The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit #Stop killing us, Slowly!

A moment of frustration and despair before returning to office

A moment of frustration and despair before returning to office

Do you know this man?    He’s the face of the new American corporate worker.  Middle Management ; beaten, humiliated, stripped of his dignity, frustrated .   He has nothing more to give the Corporation or himself.

He has been stripped down by the Corporation.  He works long hours and yet he is failing to work at capacity.
  •  Knowing he is disposable, only increases his despair.
He may not look like the face of rebellion now.  But wait.    It’s not the unemployed minorities who pose a threat to the status quo.  Beware the man in The Grey Flannel Suit , who has been beaten down and has nothing more to lose.  #Stop killing us.  We’re dying a little everyday and taking our families with us!
#We’re not disposable

The voice of Joyce: Lives count

May 19, 2015

Photo on 4-29-15 at 11.55 AM #2Why are  we destroying people’s lives?

Have you read the times lately, oh no, it’s the human condition.  Too sad for words. We are destroying our youth in more novel ways then I can count. No wonder no one grows up or wants to leave home in EUROPEAN Countries, it’s safe and cheap to live with Mamma.

What happens if you’re a Black man in America.  The statistics are frightening.  1.5 million black men in this Nation have either died or have been incarcerated. The Black community will be decimated by the disproportion of Black women to men. For every hundred women, there are 85 men. That’s bad for reproduction, it’s bad for family stability, income mobility.  You name it , Society has deteriorated at a rapid pace.

As if it’s not bad enough that we’re decimating the Black population between the ages of 25-54. We’re also destroying our schools through excessive testing and reliability on testing as a measure of teacher effectiveness. When I went to school, our schools were measured by Regents score, SAT’s and the student’s ability to get into College. We’ve taken the fun out of learning and teaching and substituted quantitative testing for analytical thinking and the joy of learning. But then again, how can kids learn when they have no stable family unit and no home or no food. We are condemning teachers for Society’s failure to provide meaningful work to the poor and middle class.

When 500,000 people apply for less then a thousand affordable housing units, we have a problem. The statistics do not begin to outline the misery and human suffering evident in our Society. Read my Tweets from the Times (4/21/15 – 4/27/15) and you decide dear reader, if we have a Society we want to live with or we want to change. We have choices to make when politics effects us.

The Voice of Joyce: Algorithms are an unfair advantage

May 19, 2015

Photo on 4-29-15 at 11.55 AM #2I finally understand why millisecond trades are like Insider Trading and an unfair advantage!  I now realize, it’s not that they purchase subscriptions to trade in milliseconds, or that they buy  stocks in bulk,  it’s ” the algorithms “, that make their trading unfair, uncompetitive and something I can’t follow and read about.

  •   ” In the old days”, I read a Balance Sheet on a company, or I invested in a company because they had excellent management and a great product.  I understand companies and business. However, I have no knowledge of algorithms;  I don’t know what criteria they use to trade.  At a millisecond, I have no idea if they’re betting for or against a company or the market.
Since, I have to guess what a limited number of traders will trade?  Mr. Market has become unpredictable.   It is no longer a  level playing field.  It has become a rigged market for the few.
I get it.   I am not at a disadvantage because of money, or bulk trades.  I am at a disadvantage because algorithms are not transparent to me. That’s why I object. That must be why Bogle and BUFFETT advocate purchasing index funds? No one can compete with the algorithms.
This form of trading is a bigger gamble then investing in stock in a Corporation.  That’s why BUFFETT must be advocating holding stock in a ” good” corporation forever.  The millisecond traders speed increases the algorithms advantage. We are no longer purchasing stock in a company .  We are betting for or against ” the table”!
I have a question for David Boise’s law firm.  I’ve been told we can’t penalize Fast Traders and characterize their trades as Insider Trading based on speed and access.  However, is it possible to bring a Lawsuit against them, based on the lack of transparency of their Algorithms?  Does the use of these Algorithms constitute Insider Trading?  Are these firms creating the Market?
Dear reader, thanks for following.  If you have comments to add to the debate, please do.  Community involvement on this and many issues moves us toward a workable Democracy. Additionally, to supplement my text, Justin Draws will once again be providing political cartoons.  Please look for our ” humorous” view of Politics, the Markets, and inequality,  as we  look for solutions for the 21 st Century. Thanks for reading.
