My World view, as an American and a Jew! I am an American first. But I mourn the disappearance of our old time values by those who govern us. The “townies ” have those values. You can see the ” goodness” and sharp instinct in their eyes. They take you in with one glance. Masters at their craft, like ” good” Doctors, they can tell within the first minute what’s wrong with you. They know “you” and they relate to you.
Our country is made up of mostly” salt of the Earth” folks. I know, I’ve traveled through our Country, many times. Politics has destroyed us and our Union. It’s time to get back to basics. Since, I was at a Military induction service, let me share what I saw and admired.
I liked the message from Captain Ferguson , he clearly cared about our kids, as he read them the oath of office and offered his own brand of Patriotism and understanding. He knew , “Our ” kids lives will change forever, for some, dramatically. All of these young people were there because , like my grandson, they were saving themselves first and their Country second. Capt. Ferguson wasted no time in reversing that order. They were there to protect and serve the country, our Country that had known constant warfare for most of these kids lives. A sobering thought. When you take the oath, your first thought has to be protect and serve your Country, with your life. No 2nd thoughts!
AMERICA has been at war for more years then we’ve been at Peace. These kids grew up only knowing an AMERICA at War. 2001 changed our lives and our culture forever. The last 14 yrs we’ve been at War with the Middle East. We’ve contributed to the rise of ISIS and have watched helplessly as the Arab Spring came to fruition. We are still watching as the Arab World tears itself apart, scattering millions into endless wandering. While we watch and only actively chastise one Country, Israel.
Why is it? The only beacon of Democracy in the Middle East we constantly demand more from, more concern for human rights then may be possible at the center of a maelstrom of War.
To paraphrase Golda Meir, ” When the Arab world hates Israel less then they love their Arab brothers and sisters, we will have Peace in the Middle East.” Golda was right. The ARABS slaughter each other, lose millions of brothers and sisters, yet continue to condemn and hate Israel. It is absurd. I don’t defend Israel right or wrong, nor do I defend AMERICA right or wrong. I question. I want the best society we can have. Nothing less will do. I just wish that perpetrators of hate would look at themselves first, create a just society in their own countries and then pick on us or Israel.
