Now is the time for us to be involved in Government! On the local level, if you have a child in School, you can be on your school’s Board. To preserve Public Education, be involved.
Community Boards, though non paying, may be tougher to get into. They may be patronage jobs for 50 selected citizens. However, they do the ” real” work of each Community District. Sample Application :

City Councils build on the work of the Community Boards. Then there are Public Advocates and The Mayor. These are paying elected positions, requiring public signatures and votes. Election to these positions are less rigorous then election to State Assemblies and the Federal Government.
We know from watching Government in action, the rewards are many.
