Right to Counsel Available to Tenants
If you are a New York City resident facing an eviction proceeding, you now have a right to legal counsel if you are income-eligible, no matter your zip code or immigration status. Tenants with notice of a court date and tenants who have been illegally locked out should contact the Office of Civil Justice to be assigned an attorney.

After a lawsuit by the Legal Aid Society, this week the Emergency Rental Assistance Program application portal was re-opened. While additional federal funding is not yet available, tenants who have fallen behind on rent during the pandemic should still apply. By filing an application, tenants will be protected against an eviction proceeding. If you have not yet applied, apply here: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/emergency-rental-assistance/
