Right to Counsel Available to Tenants
If you are a New York City resident facing an eviction proceeding, you now have a right to legal counsel if you are income-eligible, no matter your zip code or immigration status. Tenants with notice of a court date and tenants who have been illegally locked out should contact the Office of Civil Justice to be assigned an attorney.

After a lawsuit by the Legal Aid Society, this week the Emergency Rental Assistance Program application portal was re-opened. While additional federal funding is not yet available, tenants who have fallen behind on rent during the pandemic should still apply.
