The news from Nashville:

Nashville could get $14 million in infrastructure funding reinstated after a court win. Metro has filed multiple lawsuits against the Trump Administration for revoking Congressionally approved grants. A federal judge issued a permanent injunction this week, instructing the government to release millions in federal funds — including $14 million-dollars for Nashville in infrastructure grants. The Trump Administration has pledged to appeal.
Nashville had the most gentrification of any U-S city between 2010 and 2020. That’s according to a study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, a group that advocates for affordable housing. Gentrification happens when an area begins attracting wealthy, often white, residents. Rents and property values rise rapidly, displacing long-time residents who can no longer afford to live there. The Tennessean reports the most intense recent gentrification has occurred in North Nashville, north of Buchannan Street, including much of MetroCenter.
Federal funding cuts are having a major impact on local nonprofits that employ staff through the AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps is a federal agency that, every year, provides stipends to around 200,000 Americans for service work. Last year, over 4,000 Tennesseans participated. Not all Tennesseans are affected by the cuts, but around 10 Nashville organizations who operate under Hands On and the United Way, were notified last month that their funding was terminated, effective immediately. The Nashville Banner reports many of these organizations don’t have enough funds to keep staff members employed.

Video game soundtracks have always played a big part in music discovery. This Friday at The Basement East, there will be a live music tribute to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, featuring 46 songs from the game. Projectors and screens with different consoles will be placed around the venue so attendees can play the game while the bands are performing.
