1. NY#1 Eric Schneiderman speaks about 501C4 MASSIVE MISUSE OF ADVERTISING FOR CANDIDATE ADVOCACY. This is a Loophole in the CITIZENS UNITED decision, that has recently unleashed $500,000,000 into the election system with no transparency, no limit on what a donor can spend on their preferred candidate. The solution: Insure transparency, do it anyway possible, to maintain our Democracy. THESE PARTISAN ADS POISON OUR DEMOCRACY AND OUR THOUGHTS . Do you think we would be better served using the money elsewhere?
2. Channel #1 12/12/12. Eric Schneiderman NY STATE AG Investigating Con Ed to determine if there was fraudulent activity involved in the operation of the utility. This is an ongoing investigation to determine why there was a breakdown in their response time to mitigate the effects of the SUPER STORM. There are several communities in Brooklyn and Queens without power at this time. Where was the oversight? What happened to the State appointments to the Utility Board? Why was there an immense breakdown in the utilities supply chain, communications network and equipment availability? LIPA , THE LONG ISLAND UTILITY , IS BEING INVESTIGATED , TOO. So many customers suffered while the utilities CEO’s received millions in compensation for incompetence. Shouldn’t there be accountability and responsibility?
3. NY Times 12/14/12. Building a showcase on IOU’s : As students and graduates have taken on debt, the institutions have continued be build magnificent. Facilities at the expense of higher learning and job placement. One in 6 students with a loan balance is in default. Since many leaders and thinkers should be produced over the next decade to cope with the continuing changes in our environment , this may be a way out of student debt; SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY. As an example, Kids with skills at NYU were invaluable during SUPER STORM SANDY. My advice to the Universities and their misguided building programs, pay down your debt , but not off the backs of students.
4. LOL I’ attended two excellent conferences at NYU on climate MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION . NYU understands the magnitude of the potential problems caused by climate fluctuations and is preparing students to become Leaders in their Communities . THEY ARE NOW OFFERING AN URBAN SCIENCE MASTERS DEGREE : TO DOCUMENT DATA AND CREATE A SCIENTIFIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON OUR COMMUNITIES. NYU STUDENTS HAVE BECOME COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS WITH LITTLE TO NO TRAINING, NOW REAL TRAINING IN CATASTROPHE LEADERSHIP BEGINS. NONE OF US SHOULD BELIEVE THIS IS A ” ONECE IN A LIFETIME DISASTER “. This is a sea change, no pun intended!
