PUBLIC ADVOCACY: Boundaries are necessary

Boundaries effects us more then you think, when we talk about the revolving door between Washington and Business or Lobbying we are speaking boundaries.

With the laws allowing federal employees to become lobbyists we have blurred the boundaries between the two and totally negated ethics in favor of self interest. When Sheila Bair left government for the Banking World she had ethical difficulties.  In her book, ” Bull by the Horns”, she wrote that regulators should be barred for life from serving for financial firms they regulate.

“She prefers to elevate their status and salaries, since their unique position enables them to understand the weakness of the law as they work their way through Congress and then sell their skills to the highest bidder. Government work, then becomes a lucrative training ground for law firms and large corporations., who are intent on subverting the law.”

According to Sheila Bair, “the people may start with good intentions, but the shear magnitude of outside influence and money, break down most people’s resolve. People are human, that’s why we need laws restricting the revolving door. A breathing space of 10 yrs may be required to insure meaningful legislation and loyalty to the job at hand, not the one waiting in the wings. A great example of what happens when boundaries are broken”.

As another example, review the structure of SUPER PACS and subsidiary PACS , boundaries are broken regularly, giving Congressman and women unlimited access to cash as the Middle Class struggles to pay their debts like ” good citizens”.

That doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy? What about you, dear reader. When do you say something?   Being silent won’t make the ‘ bad” times go away. Denial doesn’t work, when Politics Effects US?    Unless you like and support these structures which take away our ability to think and make “good” choices to benefit the Middle Class?  We have a choice.
