PUBLIC ADVOCACY: More work to be done/ Humanity first!

1. NY TIMES 1/6/13. Health Insurers raise some rates by double digits; loophole in new law hits small businesses and individual buyers the most. ACROSS. THE NATION INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE REQUESTING AND GETTING DOUBLE DIGIT INCREASES IN PREMIUMS. Personally, My small business has watched rates increase at least 20% a year for several years. To keep rates as low as possible, we have switched between Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Oxford Health. When does the marketplace dictate pricing?

2. NY TIMES 1/6/13 SOCIAL SECURITY IT’S WORSE THEN YOU THINK? After reading this full page graphic ; I thought so what, people are living at least a year longer then predicted, it’s not a crisis. The pre boomer population and the boomer group will be almost 90 in 2030, which means that within the next 10 years most of these folks will leave the work force. It makes sense to provide job training and ensure that people are employed to compensate for the loss in productivity when this group retires?

Once jobs have been created, consider a graduated payroll tax with no limit on base compensation: 2% tax at the bottom quintile up to $50,000; then increase the tax rate at the top income/ compensation packages, as well. By taxing hi net worth earners and the carried interest of this group and hedge funds and flash trades, we will be increase revenue significantly, making reform not cuts in the social safety net possible..

3. Bill Moyers discusses Climate Change 1/6/13 with Tony Leiserowitz of Yale: the PROJECT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE COMMUNICATION. Almost 40% of the American Public is aware and concerned about CLIMATE CHANGE but don’t know what solutions to advocate. He proposes a grass roots movement to bring 40 Million people together to help focus our law makers attention on this long term project; independent of ideology.

IT IS PROPOSED THAT THE EARTH WILL HEAT ANOTHER 3-6 degrees…. The sea levels are slated to rise 1-3 ft. A little action now will go a long way toward helping our Planet. CURBING CO2 emissions is a beginning. We are facing national and international problems and solutions that will effect the entire human community. What will it take to raise awareness and problem solving in AMERICA?

4. LOL. ALL THREE OF THE TOPICS MENTIONED, ARE NOT AS POULAR AS THEY COULD BE GIVEN THE DISPROPORTIONATELY LOUD VOICE OF THE MINORITY AND THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS.

Other Countries, have acceptable and competitive health care, they are taxing corporations and high net worth earners shielding their compensation and ” fees” . Only America allows flash trades and CDO’s to control 65% of the market? And while we still have to overcome the very vocal special interest groups , the rest of the world, no longer needs convincing that Climate Change exists . Most nations have already accepted the concept of CLIMATE CHANGE and they have moved forward to thinking about adaptation and mitigation. When do we catch up to our peers and start behaving in our own self interest?
