Israel 101, Part I: The Foundations and

Origins of the State of Israel Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Join with other SWFS members in learning about early Zionism and the modern miracle of the creation of the State of Israel, as we study with synagogue clergy and Karen Spira, a visiting scholar from Brandeis University, the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies. In this 2-hour seminar, we will discuss the ideologies of Zionism that brought Jews to Eretz Yisrael, creating the pre-state Jewish community known as the Yishuv; the people, institutions and conditions of the Yishuv; the political and legal transformation of the Yishuv into a nation-state; and the values and compromises embodied in the Israeli Proclamation of Independence, in which the Yishuv accepted the UN Partition Plan and entered the family of nations. There are brief suggested readings that will be distributed to attendees prior to the session.

RSVP is required. $18.00 suggested donation to support our Israel programming

Everyone welcome!  I’m attending, too!
