How the FDA Helped Ignite, and Then Worsened, the Opioid Crisis

An investigation into the agency’s repeated violations of its own rules to approve addictive drugs—and its ongoing failure to rein in the public-health crisis.

The FDA HAS BEEN COMPROMISED FOR YEARS.

ADDITIONALLY, until the FDA is fully staffed and a wholly independent agency , it is unable to oversee the safety of drugs and regulate them effectively.

The Opioid Crisis now claims approximately 100,000 lives a year. Opioids were meant for short term acute treatment of pain.

Having had Opioids for hip replacement, I’ve had a Van Gogh experience and know first hand, you can be addicted without knowing you’re addicted. In my case, I used Opioids sparingly for a few days and went off all medication.

How many are so lucky. Or how many need pain management? There are methods to relieve addiction, use them. They cost, money , skilled professionals and a willingness to kick your addiction.

Bring the FDA back to full staffing and independent regulatory oversight. Let them set the budget they need and charge industry for their review of their pharmaceutical products and production facilities.
