TheVoiceOfJoyce Diabetes is the 7 th largest cause of death in America. 1.3 million Americans have Diabetes and struggle to pay for their medication. Insulin is rationed and prior to the last decade, it was cheap. Corporate deregulation set in , greed abounded and the price increased dramatically. On January 1 st, 2023, insulin is capped at $35 per month for Medicare. If the age for Medicare was reduced to 55 yr olds, they , too, would have affordable coverage. The system is in place. What happens to families with kids? Where is the relief from Corporate Price abuses for them? There’s no competition in the insulin market, the manufactures make the money, the middleman makes money and the taxpayer pays. Another, thank you to today’s GOP. Why didn’t the Congressional GOP caucus allow cost caps for everyone ?

Diabetes is currently the seventh-leading cause of death in the US, though a 2017 study suggests the number of Americans dying from diabetes is much higher due to diabetes frequently being overlooked in causes of death. Humans require insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate glucose in the blood, to live.

A study published on 18 October in the Annals of Internal Medicine by researchers at Harvard Medical School, the City University of New York’s Hunter College and Public Citizen, found that 1.3 million Americans rationed insulin due to the high costs of insulin in 2021. The staggering number represents an estimated 16.5% of the US population with diabetes.
