Why should the American taxpayer be on the hook , once again, for industrial clean up. 200 million people are exposed to toxic water , along with private and municipal wells. However, the study of Social Media algorithms is proceeding at Universities and recommendations for changing Section 230 of the Communication Decency Law are imminent. Both Twitter and TikTok have amplification algorithms with their retweets and shares. However, misinformation like other information that gets your attention, once you view a text that has a lie, more lies on the same topic are shown to you. Pretty soon, with enough overwhelming volume of lies, pushed by algorithms, that lie is believable. If you seek to believe misinformation, you will be misinformed and invariably, you’ll never see the truth!

Content causing self harm and suicide must be removed to the Regulators satisfaction. The large and small Social Media Platforms must explain their methodology for removal of content to users or face the Ofcom regulator, the Communications regulator , which will have the power to impose fines of 10% of their global turnover, if they breach the legislation. The NHS is taking mental health seriously and providing $57 million for additional prevention spending. If you haven’t followed this case, the Social Media Platforms scanned by the young woman who took her life, sent material to her that interested her. Since she was depressed, she viewed harmful content and the algorithms, responding to her interests pushed more harmful videos and materials onto her site, she was inundated with self harm videos for 6 months and then she committed suicide. With the new Law, the algorithms must change and the Platforms will be responsible for that change. Why should members of Congress, the January 6 Committee or other members of Federal or State Legislatures be the target of violence and harassment, on known Social Media Platforms and platforms used by the alt right and the Trump organization? Corporations are now self regulating. All corporations. There were Laws in place giving the DEA the power to prosecute and follow the money in Opioid distribution. Those Laws were overturned by the Marino Law, named for the Republican sponsoring this Law. Now the Law states, if a Corporation says, they had no intention of addicting others, they can’t be prosecuted. Self regulation brought America an Opioid problem, resulting in 100,000 deaths a year. Peoples lives can be saved by Regulating an industry. There is no difference between a “ brick and mortar corporation” and an online Platform. They all require Regulation. The Coroner decided that Meta was responsible for showing harmful content to a young teenager, 6 months prior to her suicide. In America, there is no Law regulating content appropriate for teenage viewing. In Australia, they’ve determined that content provided on online platforms must be regulated as well. Not only is content harmful to kids, it’s been separately found that data about our kids is shared with third parties and violates their privacy. In America, changing Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act, would make the internet safer for our kids and strengthen our Democracy.
