TheVoiceOfJoyce I belong to a Jewish Climate Action Group, that has briefly changed their mission because last week’s death demands that we all act to limit DHS Funding. If you don’t want more ICE & CBP Brutality, call your legislators and tell them, we don’t support the increased budgeting. Do it now, the vote may be today. Phone #’s and script enclosed. Time is of the essence.

The JCAN EMAIL TO ME:

We are following what’s happening in Minneapolis with grave concern and pain and wanted to acknowledge that many of you are feeling this as well. We are fearful for the people of Minneapolis and those who are standing up to violence and brutality by ICE.

While climate is our unwavering focus, we wanted to share the action below from T’ruah that came through our email in case you have been looking for something to do right now and haven’t quite found the right thing  T’ruah rabbis, including Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum, were recently in Minneapolis and Rabbi Jill Jacobs spoke at the National Faith in Action session on Sunday night.  The action below, at its essence, is a political message that the violence by ICE needs to end.

Yours in these heart rending times,

JCAN Steering Committee – Ben, Jack, Jeff, Jessi, Mary, Michelle, Rachel & Wendy

T’ruah: Here’s what you can do:

1) Call your senator.

This week, the Senate will vote on a DHS budget that would continue or increase funding for ICE and CBP. We can’t let that happen.

Call your senators at 855-999-8503. After the greeting press 1. You will then be connected to an automated voice that asks you to speak the name of your senator. You will need to make two calls, one for each senator in your state.

You can speak from the heart or use this script from our friends at Faith in Action:

Hello, my name is ____, and I’m a constituent from ___ (city/state). I’m calling to urgently ask Senator [LAST NAME] to vote NO to any bill package that includes any additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) this year. NOT ONE MORE DOLLAR should be added without meaningful reform. As a Jew [Or rabbi or cantor], I demand that ICE be removed from our communities, and that all enforcement activities be paused immediately pending a thorough bipartisan investigation into their conduct. Our children are living in fear. We need meaningful regulation, transparency, and accountability for ICE, including clear limits on enforcement tactics, independent investigations of use-of-force incidents, and protections for civil liberties. After the brutal deaths of Renee Nicole Good and now Alex Pretti I stand with Minnesota and demand ICE and CBP officers in both cases must be charged and prosecuted. FBI evidence must be released to Minnesota law enforcement. [If you have a story about the fear or terror you have witnessed, share it.] Can we count on the Senator to say NO to funding more death and harm in our communities? We are praying that they choose life over death. Thank you for your time.”
